Reflecting on 2025 at Chalkland Vets

Introduction

As we near the end of 2025, the team at Chalkland Vets would like to take a moment to say thank you and reflect on the year we’ve shared with all of you.

From our branches in Chippenham, Melksham, Corsham and Calne, to our blog posts, community events and expanding our services, it’s been a year of growth, engagement and heartfelt moments.

We’re grateful to every client and every pet for letting us be part of your journey.

Our New Green Health Plan – Test and Assess

We launched our new Green Health Plan, which features all the same great things that our gold plan does, but with a few key differences that make it truly tailored to your pet’s needs:

  • Following your pet’s primary puppy or kitten vaccinations and first-year booster, we will offer titre testing in year two. This is because some animals will form a longer-lasting immunity to some diseases, meaning that their next injection may not actually be necessary.
  • Annual leptospirosis vaccination for dogs
  • All of the different pets that come through our doors have different parasite risk profiles. This is why this plan includes 3 monthly worm egg counts to help us treat your pet more appropriately.

Our new Hydrotherapy Service at Calne

With the help of our qualified physiotherapist, Leanne, we now offer a hydrotherapy service using an underwater hydro treadmill that helps with:

  • Pain relief: Hydrotherapy can help alleviate pain and discomfort in pets suffering from arthritis, joint issues, or injuries.
  • Improved mobility: The buoyancy of water reduces stress on joints, allowing pets to move more freely and comfortably.
  • Enhanced recovery: Hydrotherapy is an excellent rehabilitation tool for pets recovering from surgery or injury.
  • Weight management: Water exercise can aid in weight loss and management, promoting a healthier lifestyle for your pet.
  • Strength building: Hydrotherapy helps build muscle strength and endurance, improving overall physical condition.

We were accredited as an invertebrate-friendly practice

With the help of Dr Jose Pascual, who’s an advanced surgical practitioner with a special interest in exotics, we were able to expand our exotic services and start treating invertebrates, such as:

  • Millipedes, particularly larger species like the African Giant Millipede (Archispirostreptus gigas).
  • Giant African Land Snails (Achatina spp.).
  • Tarantulas, from rose-hair species to larger New World spiders.
  • We also welcome other invertebrates, such as stick insects, beetles, scorpions, mantids, and more.

Please get in touch to check if your species can be seen.

RCVS-accreditation

Our Chippenham and Corsham branches have received accreditation from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) under its Practice Standards Scheme (PSS). The RCVS accreditation scheme is voluntary, and it reassures clients that the clinic has high standards and all the correct protocols in place.

So, what does RVCS Accreditation mean:

  • Quality assurance: An RCVS-accredited practice meets certain standards for veterinary care, facilities, hygiene and infection control, equipment maintenance and safety, staff training and continuous professional development (CPD), clinical governance and record keeping, emergency care and hospitalisation facilities.
  • Regular inspection and assessment: The RCVS carries out regular inspections to ensure practices maintain their standards.

A huge thanks to our hard-working management and leadership teams who have made this happen.

Our values hold value

You may have seen recent news about the CMA’s review of veterinary care. We wanted to share what it means for you and your pets here at Chalkland Vets:

  • Transparent pricing – Written estimates with a clear breakdown of costs are provided before procedures. We will talk through costs during consultation.
  • Open conversations – We discuss treatment options, costs, and prescriptions so you can choose what’s best for your pet.
  • Proudly independent – Every decision is about your pet, not corporate targets.
  • Prescription charges – We’ll always discuss the best options for your pet and your budget.
  • Our commitment – We invest in our team and equipment to provide personalised, high-quality care. Every recommendation is made with your pet’s best interests in mind.

Our community

A heartfelt thank you to every pet owner who trusted us this year. Whether you brought in a new puppy or kitten, a senior pet, a rabbit or an invertebrate, you’re part of the Chalkland Vets family.

Special thanks to clients who engaged with our social media posts, wrote an online review, attended events like our “Mini Vet Workshops”, and helped us spread the word through our new Refer and Reward Scheme, where you can invite a friend or family member to our practice, and you’ll both receive a £15 credit as a thank you.

Looking forward

We hope next year will also be one to remember, for all the good things it brings.

We will be starting it off in style when we take delivery of our new CT scanner! Due to be up and running in early February at our Calne Clinic, it will increase our diagnostic imaging capabilities and help us to reach a diagnosis quicker.

Conditions such as orthopaedic issues, dental disease, soft tissue problems, tumours and trauma injuries can all be seen in more detail on a CT scan. Having this done in-house will allow us to pinpoint the problems and plan treatment options faster than referring patients elsewhere for a scan.

We can’t wait to see it in action!

At Chalkland Vets, we pride ourselves on providing excellent and contextualised care for our patients, which means prioritising your pets’ health above everything else and providing a tailored care plan.

We are a completely independent practice with four sites and will always make sure our values remain the same.

We care for your pets like they’re our own.

We can’t wait to see what 2026 brings to Chalkland Vets!
